Client Background: Founded in 1997, The Thirsty Dog Company is a popular drinking spot for Akron natives, located on Grant Street in the former Burkhardt Brewing Co. building. Famous for its wide variety of ale, stout, lager, porter, maibark, and seasonal beers, Thirsty Dog prides itself on quality craftsmanship, small-batch production, and carefully selected ingredients. It challenges large national breweries by creating a balanced combination of flavor, texture and aroma in endless flavor profiles. Thirsty dog boosts 24,000 barrels a year with fermenters; definitely one to watch in the Ohio craft brewery scene. Thirsty dog is offered through many distributors and sponsors the annual Blues & Brews beer festival at Lock 3.

Industry/Competitors: Unlike the stagnant growth of the overall beer market in 2015, the craft beer segment grew 17 percent by volume. Of the top 25 breweries in Ohio, Great Lakes Brewing Co. in Cleveland led the charge with 150,000-barrels produced. Rhinegeist in Cincinnati came in second, followed by MadTree Brewing Co., Columbus Brewing Co., and Brew Kettle Taproom. According to The Brewers Association, craft beer is expected to to control 20 percent of the nation’s $101 billion beer market by 2020.
